Did You Ruin Your HVAC Warranty?

Thursday, May 18, 2017

Here at Peterman Heating, Cooling and Plumbing, Inc. we often preach how important it is to get a yearly maintenance for your AC and furnace.  It is important to get this done each year because it saves energy when your HVAC system is properly maintained, it can increase the lifespan on your system & it can reduce costly repairs and system break dIMG_4099owns.

All of these things may be something you already knew, but the biggest thing that homeowners don’t realize is that almost every manufacturers owner’s manual and warranty fine print states in the small print that the homeowner must maintain their equipment or the warranty may become VOID!  Make sure you read the fine print.  Some manufacturers even require you to prove that you had routine maintenance done.  Be sure to keep copies of all of your receipts from any tune-up for that reason!

Fun Facts About an HVAC Tune-Up:

  • Your AC runs about the equivalence of 200,000 miles a year.  Would you really dream of never getting the oil changed or the tires rotated on your car if you drove your car that far? Getting a tune-up on your system is just as important!! You can greatly extend the lifespan of your HVAC unit if it is maintained properly.
  • Paying for maintenance may feel like a lot, but waiting until something goes wrong with your HVAC system can be quite costly.  A small issue may not disable your system, but may ultimately lead to a larger more costly problem.  Planned maintenance is much cheaper than emergency maintenance!!
  • Your heating and cooling system accounts for almost 50 percent of your energy costs in your home.* Keeping your HVAC system maintained will help keep your energy bills from going through the roof!  You can save up to 15% a month on your energy bills when your unit is properly maintained.**
