IndyStar Names Peterman a 2017 Top Workplace

INDIANAPOLIS — May 1, 2017 — Peterman Heating, Cooling and Plumbing, Inc. has been named one of the Top 90 Workplaces in Central Indiana by IndyStar. The Top Workplaces special section will be published in The Indianapolis Star and on Sunday, June 11, when final company rankings will be released.

TWP_Indianapolis_Portrait_2017Top Workplaces recognizes the most progressive companies in Indianapolis and Central Indiana based on employee opinions measuring engagement, organizational health and satisfaction.  The analysis included responses from more than 18,000 employees at Central Indiana’s
public, private, and nonprofit organizations.

The rankings in the IndyStar Top Workplaces 2017 program are based on survey information collected by Workplace Dynamics, an independent company specializing in employee engagement and retention.

The winners are divided into size categories.  This year, 13 large companies (400+ employees), 27 mid-size firms (150-399), and 50 small (50-149) organizations made the list out of more than 130 entries.

Peterman Heating, Cooling and Plumbing, Inc. was named a winner on the small company list.

To qualify for the IndyStar Top Workplaces program, a company must have at least 50 employees in Central Indiana. More than 750 companies were invited to participate, with 90 making the winner’s list. Rankings are composite scores calculated purely on the basis of employee responses.

Seven Seals Award

On June 5th, during our monthly company meeting here at Peterman, our company received the very honorable Seven Seals Award from ESGR, or “Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.”  The Seven Seals Award is the broadest and most inclusive award given by ESGR and is presented at the discretion of the State Chair or by ESGR senior leadership. The Seven Seals Award is presented in recognition of significant individual or organizational achievement, initiative, or support that promotes and supports the ESGR mission on a daily basis.

To earn this award, our company was nominated by one of our HVAC Technicians, Derick Chandler.  (A company cannot nominate themselves, but they must be nominated by an employee of that company.)  This award is in recognition of military commitment  as employers support and value the employment & military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. These citizen warriors could not defend and protect us at home and abroad without the continued promise of meaningful civilian employment for themselves and their families.

We are honored that Derick nominated us and even more honored to have been selected for this award.  We are very proud to be an all-American company!

NATE Certified… They All Passed the Test!!

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence (NATE) and is the nation’s largest non-profit certification organization for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration technicians. Our technicians completed in-house training programs in order to prepare for this test and all of them successfully passed. We are so proud of our guys!


“NATE certification tests represent real world working knowledge of HVACR systems. Developed by a committee of industry experts nationwide, our NATE exams represent HVACR topics pertinent to contractors, educators, manufacturers and utilities alike. All of the NATE tests are rigorous, multiple-choice, knowledge-based tests and validate a technician’s knowledge. NATE candidates may earn Installation and/or Service certification in one or more Specialty areas, including:

  • Air ConditioningNate Certified Logo USE
  • Air Distribution
  • Heat Pumps
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Ground Source Heat Pump Loop Installer
  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst”

We challenged our guys to get this certification, not only for themselves, but also for our customers. The more knowledge they have, the better they can serve you and care for your system. Make sure you congratulate the guys on passing these tests. They are very difficult and the guys worked extremely hard to pass these.

Esteemed 2016 Angie’s List Super Service Award 2016 – Peterman Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, Inc.

Peterman Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, Inc. has earned the home service industry’s coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award, reflecting an exemplary year of customer service to members of the local services marketplace and consumer review site in 2016.  Here at Peterman, we always strive to give our customers the best possible customer service out there!  Being family-owned means that we take care of each and every customer like part of our own family.  As a result, we have proudly received the Super Service Award EIGHT times now!  Thank you to all of our customers that have made this possible.  We appreciate your business.

This achievement is particularly significant as Angie’s List experienced unprecedented member growth in 2016.  More than 1.6 million consumers, many of whom were eager to quickly hire highly qualified service pros, joined Angie’s List after the company added a new, free membership tier.

“Companies that can meet higher demands without missing a beat in their exemplary performance standards truly do stand apart from their peers,” said Angie’s List Founder Angie Hicks. “Only a fraction of the HVAC and plumbing companies in Indianapolis were able to do it.”

Angie’s List Super Service Award 2016 winners have met strict eligibility requirements, which include an “A” rating in overall grade, recent grade, and review period grade.  The SSA winners must also be in good standing with Angie’s List, pass a background check and abide by Angie’s List operational guidelines.

Service company ratings are updated daily on Angie’s List as new, verified consumer reviews are submitted.  Companies are graded on an A through F scale in areas ranging from price to professionalism to punctuality.

For more than 21 years, Angie’s List restricted access to its verified reviews to consumers who paid membership fees. When the company removed that barrier, some companies worried that the new, non-paying members would not be as engaged as members of the past.  Experience has shown, however, that these newly added members are just as engaged – across all age groups – as prior members.  Also, because the company continues to adhere to its review verification process, there has been no degradation of review quality.

“The biggest change at Angie’s List is that we are connecting even more consumers to high quality service professionals,” Hicks said. “And that’s good for everyone.”
